Can I use my Westlaw, Lexis and Bloomberg accounts over the summer?

During the summer, current students retain access to all of Northwestern University's databases (HeinOnline, ProQuest Congressional, etc.) including Lexis and Bloomberg Law.  Westlaw access for current students includes some restrictions.  Please note that a firm may require you to use a firm-based Lexis or Westlaw account instead of your Northwestern account for their billing purposes.

Westlaw
  • Current students may only use their Northwestern Westlaw accounts over the summer for non-commercial purposes.  Accepted uses include:
    • Summer coursework
    • Research assistant assignments
    • Law Review or Journal research
    • Moot Court research
    • Non-Profit work
    • Clinical work
    • Internship/Externship sponsored by the school
  • Graduates have 18 months of extended Westlaw access as part of our subscription to the Westlaw GradElite Program.  This includes access to Westlaw and Practical Law for commercial or noncommercial use.  You’ll have 60 hours/month of access for 18 months from the date of your graduate, if you register with the Westlaw GradElite Program.

Lexis

  • Current students have unlimited access during the summer.
  • Lexis provides graduates with unlimited access to Lexis through December 31. There is no registration required on your part and you can use your ID for any purpose during this time.

Bloomberg Law

  • Current students have unlimited access during the summer.
  • Bloomberg Law provides graduates with unlimited access for six months following graduation.
